Etsy has agreed to sell the secondhand fashion marketplace Depop to eBay for approximately $1.2 billion in cash. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approval.
The sale price represents a significant loss for Etsy, which acquired the platform for $1.625 billion in 2021. Etsy plans to use the proceeds for share repurchases and investment in its core handmade and vintage marketplace.
The acquisition allows eBay to deepen its reach with younger consumers. The move expands eBay's presence in the growing fashion resale market.
