AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile formed a joint venture to accelerate direct-to-device (D2D) satellite technology. The partnership aims to eliminate mobile dead zones by connecting standard smartphones directly to satellites.

The venture will build a unified, technology-neutral platform. Partners will pool spectrum resources to increase network capacity. The companies will make joint investments and coordinate technical development to prevent market fragmentation.

This initiative supplements existing individual partnerships with Starlink and AST SpaceMobile rather than replacing them. The alliance provides major carriers a unified voice in the evolving D2D market. A common platform will allow more satellite providers to enter the market and improve customer experience.
