Meta Platforms will lay off approximately 8,000 employees starting this week. This reduction represents about 10% of the company's total workforce. Management also canceled plans to fill 6,000 additional open roles.
These cuts continue the workforce reductions initiated in late 2022. CEO Mark Zuckerberg framed the move as part of his ongoing year of efficiency. Meta is reallocating these resources to offset major investments in artificial intelligence.
The company increased its 2026 capital expenditure guidance by $10 billion last month. Total projected spending for 2026 now reaches $145 billion.
