Fluence Energy and LEAG Clean Power GmbH have started construction on the Heinersbrück GridBattery in eastern Germany. The energy storage project will provide a capacity of 400 MWh. Developers are building the system on recultivated mining land co-located with wind and solar assets.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2027. This development marks the second major collaboration between Fluence and LEAG. Their previous partnership includes the 1 GW GigaBattery Jänschwalde 1000 system. That earlier project features 4 GWh of storage capacity.
Fluence will oversee the design, supply, and construction using its Smartstack modular technology. The initiative supports LEAG’s GigawattFactory plan to replace coal infrastructure with renewable energy.
