Fervo Energy's stock surged Monday after the company announced a partnership with NVIDIA and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) to develop an AI-driven digital twin platform for geothermal projects. The platform, named EGS-Twin, will use Fervo's field data and NVIDIA's AI infrastructure to create simulations aimed at optimizing drilling and increasing power generation from geothermal sources.
The collaboration is seen as a significant step in applying advanced computing to clean energy. It overshadowed Fervo's first-quarter financial results, where the company reported a wider-than-expected loss. Fervo posted a loss of $3.72 per share on revenue of just $61,000, missing analyst expectations significantly. Despite the earnings miss, investors focused on the long-term potential of the AI partnership, which aims to make geothermal energy more scalable and efficient. The digital twin platform is scheduled for implementation by 2029.
