GE Aerospace and its CFM International joint venture announced a record-breaking agreement at the Farnborough Airshow. CFM International operates as a 50-50 partnership between GE and Safran Aircraft Engines. Lessor BOC Aviation finalized an order for up to 300 LEAP engines. This deal represents the largest engine order in CFM International’s history. The engines will power Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
GE Aerospace also completed the world’s first hybrid-electric flight at an altitude exceeding 30,000 feet. The company conducted the test using a modified Saab 340B aircraft. NASA and Boeing collaborated on the milestone project. This flight demonstrates the viability of hybrid-electric propulsion for future commercial aircraft.
