Goldman Sachs estimates indicate that China added 48 tonnes of gold to its reserves during May through the London over-the-counter market. This figure represents the largest single-month acquisition for the nation in more than 12 months.

The estimated purchase volume is 4.8 times higher than the 10 tonnes officially disclosed by China's central bank for the same period. This discrepancy suggests significant unofficial stockpiling activity beyond reported figures.
