Tax authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo sealed the offices of Glencore unit Kamoto Copper Co. on Thursday. The government agency claims the subsidiary owes billions of dollars in unpaid taxes.
The enforcement marks a significant escalation following failed settlement negotiations. Production at the nearby copper and cobalt mines remains unaffected.
Glencore disputes the tax claims and continues to engage with DRC authorities. Kamoto is one of the largest copper and cobalt producers in the region.
