General Motors named Jorge Plata the new president and managing director of its Africa and Middle East (AMEO) division. Plata currently serves as the Vice President of Sales, Service, and Marketing at GM Mexico. The transition is scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2026.
Plata succeeds Jack Uppal, who led the AMEO business for a three-year term. Uppal will transition to President and Managing Director of GM Canada. GM highlighted Plata’s success guiding strategy in Mexico, which the company calls one of the world’s most dynamic automotive markets.
The leadership change occurs as the AMEO division focuses its strategy on deploying personal autonomous technologies and digital services.
