Google is nearing a multiyear agreement to buy nuclear power from Constellation Energy. The deal is reportedly valued at $1 billion or more and would support Google’s long-term strategy to power its global data centers with carbon-free energy around the clock. An announcement could come as soon as this week, but the amount and location of the nuclear capacity have not been disclosed.
The deal reflects technology companies’ efforts to secure reliable, emissions-free electricity as artificial intelligence drives up power demand. Amazon and Microsoft have recently signed similar nuclear power agreements to support their data centers. The industry is looking to existing nuclear facilities for a stable, around-the-clock supply of clean energy.
