Anthropic announced that its Claude AI model now leads 26% of internal research and development. This share represents a surge from 1% in March 2026. The company defines leading as the AI completing most of a task while a human supervises. This milestone highlights recursive self-improvement, a concept where AI contributes to its own advancement.
Claude also collaborates on more than 90% of Anthropic’s research projects. The AI performs significant portions of work under close human direction during these collaborations. Anthropic clarified that Claude does not yet operate with full autonomy. The company released these figures as part of a new initiative to provide transparent metrics on AI development.
