The Walt Disney Company issued a cease and desist letter to Google, accusing the tech giant of unauthorized use of copyrighted material to train its generative artificial intelligence models.
Disney specifically cited content from films, including Moana and Frozen. The company alleges Google is infringing on copyrights on a "massive scale" and has profited from the resulting AI-generated outputs.
Disney stated it has raised these concerns with Google for months. However, the company claims Google has failed to take steps to prevent the alleged infringement.
Google responded by stating it uses public data from the open web to build its AI models. The tech giant also noted it maintains a long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship with Disney and will continue to engage with the company.
