Google and long-duration energy storage developer Energy Dome announced their first bilateral commercial project. The CO2 Battery facility will be located in County Offaly, Ireland. It features a 23MW / 200MWh capacity.
The initiative supports a broader partnership to deploy Energy Dome's technology at scale. This deployment aids Google's goal to operate on 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030.
The project aims to enhance grid stability in Ireland. It will absorb surplus renewable energy. It will dispatch energy during periods of high demand, alleviating grid congestion.
Energy Dome will develop, own, and operate the facility.
The CO2 Battery technology stores energy by compressing carbon dioxide into a liquid. It generates power by expanding the liquid back into a gas to drive a turbine.
