AI startup Anthropic is moving to lease and manage its own data centers through a $35 billion financing arrangement. Alphabet’s Google is backstopping lease payments at five U.S. locations to help secure the massive loan.
Anthropic will deploy Google’s custom Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) chips within these new facilities. The deal involves chip designer Broadcom alongside private equity firms Apollo Global Management and Blackstone.
This partnership solidifies Google’s role as a primary infrastructure provider in the competitive AI sector. The arrangement highlights the extreme capital requirements currently driving the industry.
