Alphabet's Google connected its new transatlantic subsea cable, "Nuvem," to Sines, Portugal. Nuvem, Portuguese for "cloud," creates a new data route between the United States and Europe. This route aims to meet increasing demand for cloud computing and AI services.

The Nuvem cable system spans approximately 7,000 kilometers. It links Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with Sines. The system also includes landing points in Bermuda and the Azores to improve network redundancy. This project solidifies Portugal's growing role as a strategic digital hub connecting Europe with the Americas and Africa.
