John Jumper is leaving Google’s DeepMind to join competitor AI startup Anthropic. Jumper co-led the development of the AlphaFold protein-folding system.

He recently shared the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on AlphaFold. Jumper served at DeepMind for nearly nine years.

The departure follows a series of high-profile exits from Google to rivals OpenAI and Anthropic. This hire suggests Anthropic is expanding its focus into AI-driven scientific discovery.
