Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced a $15 billion investment for the America-India Connect initiative at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. The company will deploy this capital over a five-year period to enhance AI connectivity via subsea cables.
The project includes the establishment of a new international subsea gateway and a full-stack AI hub in Visakhapatnam, India. New subsea routes will link India to the United States, Singapore, South Africa, and Australia to bolster connectivity across the southern hemisphere.
This expenditure supports Google's broader strategy to build infrastructure for its global AI ambitions. Alphabet shares rose slightly in after-hours trading as investors focused on the long-term potential of the investment.
