Google removed some AI Overviews (AIOs) for health-related searches. This action followed a Guardian investigation. The report found the AIOs provided false, misleading, and potentially dangerous information.

The investigation revealed inaccurate data for queries such as "what is the normal range for liver blood tests." This data could lead individuals with serious conditions to believe they are healthy. Experts labeled the findings "dangerous" and "alarming."

In response, Google took down the AI summaries for the specific search terms highlighted by the report. A company spokesperson stated they work to make broad improvements when AIOs miss context. They also take action under their policies where appropriate.

However, the report noted that other summaries remained active. These active summaries cover cancer and mental health topics. Experts also described these remaining summaries as incorrect.
