Google reportedly began informing major advertisers about plans to introduce paid advertisements within its flagship AI chatbot, Gemini. The company targets a 2026 rollout. Early conversations described monetization plans but did not specify ad formats, pricing, or how commercial interests might shape Gemini’s responses. This initiative stands distinct from the AI-powered search ads introduced earlier this year.
The introduction of ads would represent a significant step in commercializing Google's expanding AI portfolio and establishing a new revenue stream. However, shortly after these reports emerged, Google's Global Advertising Vice President, Dan Taylor, issued a denial on social media. Taylor stated the information was inaccurate, confirming there are currently no plans to bring ads to the Gemini app. This conflicting information highlights Google's cautious approach to AI monetization.
