Google's Gemini hits 29.9% share, eroding ChatGPT's market dominance

Google’s Gemini AI chatbot reached a 29.9% share of global web traffic in May, according to a June 9 BNP Paribas report. This figure marks an increase from 29.4% in April.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT remains the market leader with over 60% of traffic. Its share has declined steadily from more than 90% in early 2025.

Total AI chatbot traffic grew 3% month-over-month in May. Competitors like Anthropic’s Claude continue to gain ground as the market becomes increasingly fragmented.
