The U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced Wednesday it is considering new rules for how Google's AI Overviews utilize publisher content. The proposed measures offer publishers greater choice and transparency.
Publishers could prevent their content from being used to train Google's AI models. They could also block content from powering AI-generated summaries in search results.
This action enforces the U.K.'s new Digital Markets, Competition, and Consumer bill. The bill aims to regulate the power of dominant tech companies.
The proposals also require Google to ensure publishers' content is properly cited in AI-generated results. The CMA is seeking feedback on the requirements. The deadline for feedback is February 25.
