Google launched WeatherNext 3, an AI-powered global weather forecasting model. Google DeepMind and Google Research developed the model. WeatherNext 3 uses live satellite data to generate hourly forecasts. This marks a change from previous models, which relied on simulations with a six-hour data lag.
WeatherNext 3 offers a resolution five times sharper than its predecessor. It provides more detailed and localized predictions. The model delivers forecasts for temperature and moisture at a 5-kilometer resolution. WeatherNext 3 also includes features for the renewable energy sector. It forecasts wind speeds at turbine height and solar radiation levels.
Google integrates WeatherNext 3 forecasts into its products, including Search, Maps, and Gemini. Businesses can also access these forecasts through Google Cloud.
