Indian police will question Google regarding security safeguards after uncovering a network of 500,000 fake Gmail accounts.
Criminals allegedly used these accounts to send hoax bomb threats to government offices. One threat targeted the Gujarat state government days before the New Delhi BRICS summit.
Gujarat authorities arrested two individuals for managing the network. The operation has reportedly been active since 2022.
Investigators are examining how the suspects bypassed security measures at scale. Every fraudulent account reportedly had two-factor authentication enabled.
