EU regulators ordered Alphabet's Google to provide competitors greater access to its Android operating system and search data. This mandate aims to curb Google's market power under the Digital Markets Act.
Google must allow rival AI assistants, including OpenAI, deeper integration into Android. This enables functionalities like voice commands previously reserved for Google's own services.
The company must also share anonymized search data with competing search engines and AI chatbots. Search data sharing is scheduled to begin in January 2027.
Android integration changes must be implemented by July 2027. Google claims these mandates could compromise user privacy and security protections.
