Honda Motor Co. and QuantumScape have entered a multi-year joint research agreement to advance solid-state lithium-metal battery technology. The partnership focuses on developing both the battery cells and the manufacturing processes required for commercialization.
The collaboration follows a successful technology evaluation of QuantumScape’s platform by Honda. Atsushi Ogawa, an executive at Honda R&D, stated the technology demonstrated unique advantages during the assessment.
Honda aims to introduce electric vehicles equipped with solid-state batteries in the second half of the 2020s. This strategy targets the production of batteries with higher energy density, faster charging capabilities, and improved safety.
