Chinese lidar manufacturer Hesai Group unveiled the EXT sensor, the industry's first to integrate spatial and color detection. The technology improves autonomous driving perception by identifying specific object details, such as traffic light colors.

The new sensor utilizes Hesai's in-house Picasso chip. Mass production is scheduled for 2026, with integration into flagship vehicle models planned for 2027.

The development secures Hesai's position as a primary lidar supplier for Nvidia's global ADAS platform. Hesai remains a dominant player in China, supplying major EV manufacturers including Li Auto, Xiaomi, and BYD.
