SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics pledged a combined 896 trillion won to build a semiconductor and AI hub. This investment equals approximately $578 billion for facilities in southwestern South Korea. The initiative belongs to the government's Three Mega Projects for regional development and global market dominance.

The investment funds new fabrication plants and research facilities for next-generation memory and artificial intelligence chips. The South Korean government provides deregulation and infrastructure support to facilitate the project. This commitment aims to address the global shortage of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips required for AI processors.

Analysts warn of potential oversupply if AI-driven demand decreases over the next decade. Both companies plan to adjust the pace of investment based on evolving market conditions.
