SK hynix is negotiating with Intel to manufacture memory chips in the United States for the first time. The companies are considering leasing space at Intel’s Ohio facility or forming a joint venture with major cloud providers.

The move complements SK hynix’s ongoing expansion, including a new packaging plant in Indiana. However, the South Korean government may block the deal to protect DRAM and HBM as sensitive national assets.

SK hynix premarket shares rose 3.5% after the report. Intel stock climbed 5% in response. SK hynix stated it is reviewing various strategic options but confirmed no final decisions are made.
