Intel and Samsung are advancing their 2nm gate-all-around (GAA) process technology. However, both companies reportedly face yield gaps, leaving TSMC as the sole external supplier for the advanced node currently.
TSMC officially began volume production of its 2nm process in the fourth quarter of 2025. The company is ramping up production at its facilities in Hsinchu and Kaohsiung to meet demand heading into 2026.
This development creates a significant competitive hurdle for Intel’s foundry services. Intel’s turnaround and long-term strategy depend heavily on successfully launching its own advanced nodes, such as Intel 18A, to attract major external clients and challenge TSMC’s market dominance.
Analysts consider consistent execution in the manufacturing roadmap pivotal for Intel to solidify its recovery.
