IonQ, NVIDIA, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and the University of Tennessee developed a generative AI method to create quantum optimization circuits. This technique eliminates the costly trial-and-error process of parameter tuning that historically limited quantum computing scale.
The research received a best paper award at IEEE Quantum Week for demonstrating that AI can directly generate efficient quantum circuits. This approach maintains constant runtimes as problems grow more complex, enabling hybrid quantum systems to solve large-scale industrial problems.
