Pfizer reached a settlement in principle to resolve more than 5,000 lawsuits involving its Depo-Provera birth control shot. A Monday court filing confirmed the agreement, leading to the cancellation of a trial previously scheduled for December 2026.

The litigation alleged that Pfizer failed to warn patients that the drug could increase the risk of meningioma. This condition is a typically benign tumor that develops in the lining of the brain and spinal cord.

Financial terms of the deal remain confidential as final details are completed. The legal challenge followed a 2024 study linking the drug to higher tumor risks, which prompted the FDA to add a warning label in late 2025. This settlement resolves the bulk of the litigation less than two years after the first cases were filed in late 2024.
