Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in India, operated by multinational banks including JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc., are increasingly using artificial intelligence to automate entry-level work. These technology and operations hubs employ about 2.4 million people and are a crucial part of India’s IT sector. They are automating tasks such as basic coding, document checking and invoicing.

The shift is significantly reducing hiring of new engineering graduates. Graduates face intense competition for fewer openings, which once numbered in the millions.

GCCs continue to hire specialized, higher-skilled talent, but the traditional entry-level pathway is narrowing. Companies are prioritizing upskilling current employees and hiring mid-level professionals with AI expertise over large-scale recruitment of entry-level workers.
