A court in Ho Chi Minh City has rejected a lawsuit filed by Coca-Cola Vietnam against the local Tax Department. The ruling upholds the government's decision to demand back taxes and penalties amounting to over VND821 billion, which is approximately $33 million. The case relates to a tax audit that covered the company's operations from 2007 to 2015. The tax authorities asserted that Coca-Cola Vietnam had not properly declared and fulfilled its tax obligations during a period where it consistently reported financial losses. Following a comprehensive audit that began in 2019, officials recalculated the company's tax liabilities, leading to the substantial assessment. Coca-Cola Vietnam's appeal of this decision was rejected by the tax authority, which led to the lawsuit that has now been dismissed by the court.
