Eli Lilly has launched the ACCLAIM-Lp(a) Phase 3 clinical trial for its investigational drug, lepodisiran. The study evaluates the therapy's ability to reduce major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with elevated Lipoprotein(a).

Lipoprotein(a) is a genetically-determined risk factor for heart disease that current medications cannot effectively lower. Lepodisiran utilizes RNA interference (siRNA) technology to specifically target and lower these protein levels.

The randomized, placebo-controlled trial enrolls adults with established cardiovascular disease or those at high risk for heart attack and stroke. Previous smaller studies demonstrated that lepodisiran substantially reduced Lipoprotein(a) levels.

Lilly expects to complete the multi-year Phase 3 program in 2029. Success would establish a new preventative treatment and significantly expand the company's presence in cardiometabolic health.
