MDA Space will provide LEIA LiDAR sensors for the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Argonaut spacecraft. The Argonaut mission represents Europe’s first independent lunar landing program.
MDA Space UK will deliver two flight units for the spacecraft’s Hazard Detection and Avoidance system. These sensors enable the spacecraft to autonomously select safe landing sites on the lunar surface.
The parties formalized the agreement at the Farnborough International Airshow. This contract integrates MDA Space into international exploration efforts coordinated with NASA’s Artemis missions.
UK Space Minister Liz Lloyd cited the selection as evidence of Britain’s leadership in lunar technology. The mission will transport cargo and scientific instruments to support a sustained human presence on the Moon.
