MercadoLibre is expanding into Chile’s pharmaceutical market according to a Reuters report. The company proposed an in-house, online-only pharmacy during meetings with Chilean authorities. This initiative follows a similar pilot program the company launched in Brazil.

Current Chilean health regulations prohibit online-only drugstores. The expansion requires a formal reinterpretation or amendment of existing laws. Chile's health ministry recommended the company seek a technical evaluation from the Public Health Institute.

The move aims to scale MercadoLibre's direct retail operations. This strategy highlights the company's ambition to enter high-growth sectors across Latin America.
