Anthropic has acquired Seattle-based AI startup Vercept to integrate its technology into the Claude AI assistant. As part of the agreement, Vercept’s team will join Anthropic and its existing external product will be discontinued.

Vercept develops AI agents capable of operating computers and software applications by interpreting on-screen visual information. This technology enables AI to perform complex, multi-step tasks within live applications in a manner similar to human users.

The acquisition focuses on enhancing Claude’s ability to manage intricate workflows. This move underscores the aggressive competition for AI expertise, following Meta’s 2025 poaching of Vercept co-founder Matt Deitke.
