Meta Platforms is testing a new shopping research feature within its artificial intelligence chatbot for select users in the United States. The tool generates product suggestions via an image carousel featuring brand names, website links, and pricing data.
This rollout positions Meta as a direct competitor to e-commerce functionalities in OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. The development supports CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s objective to build a personal superintelligence through data-driven personalized experiences.
The feature personalizes recommendations using specific user data, including location and inferred gender. A Meta spokesperson confirmed the pilot program but declined to provide a timeline for a broader release.
