Meta reportedly informed Oversight Board members it may cease funding the body after 2028. The board functions as an independent appeals body for content moderation on Facebook and Instagram.
Meta is currently cutting costs to prioritize investments in AI infrastructure. The company already reduced the board's funding this year. Further funding reductions are planned for 2027 and 2028.
Meta stated that completely eliminating funding is not its preferred outcome. Both parties are negotiating a compromise that could allow the board to serve other tech platforms.
