Meta Platforms announced Monday it agreed to acquire Chinese artificial intelligence startup Manus. The technology giant seeks to accelerate the integration of advanced AI capabilities across its platforms. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Manus, though identified as a Chinese startup, is based in Singapore. The firm specializes in creating a general-purpose AI agent that functions as a digital employee. This agent performs research and automation tasks with minimal prompting.
Meta plans to operate and sell the Manus service directly. Concurrently, the company will integrate the technology into its consumer and business products, including the existing Meta AI assistant. The acquisition occurs amidst fierce industry competition.
