Meta Platforms will introduce new location fees for advertisers starting July 1, 2026. These surcharges aim to offset digital services taxes (DSTs) across several European markets.
The company will apply a 5% surcharge for advertisements displayed in Austria. France will incur a 3% fee. Italy will carry a 3% surcharge. Spain will also implement a 3% rate. Turkey will implement a 5% fee. The United Kingdom rate is set at 2%.
Meta determines the specific surcharge based on the location of the user viewing the ad rather than the advertiser's business address. Invoices will list these charges as a separate line item.
This policy aligns Meta with competitors like Google and Amazon, which already transfer regulatory tax costs to regional advertisers and sellers. Digital services taxes target the revenue large technology firms generate from digital activities within specific national borders. Meta described the move as an adaptation to the evolving global regulatory landscape.
