Meta Platforms is developing a new suite of advanced artificial intelligence models. The company expects to release the models in the first half of 2026.
The initiative features two key projects. The multi-modal model, codenamed 'Mango,' is designed to generate and understand both images and video.
A next-generation large language model, 'Avocado,' will focus on advanced coding capabilities. Avocado will also explore 'world models' that comprehend real physical environments using visual data.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg drives this push to regain a dominant position in the AI field. Alexandr Wang, former CEO of Scale AI, leads the initiative from Meta's Super Intelligence Lab. To bolster its talent pool, Meta reportedly hired more than 20 top researchers from competitor OpenAI, signaling a significant escalation of investment in generative AI as a core future strategy.
