Meta's Threads has surpassed X in global daily active mobile users, a significant milestone in its challenge to the platform formerly known as Twitter. According to data from market intelligence firm Similarweb, Threads averaged 143.2 million daily active mobile users in the first half of January 2026, compared to 126.2 million for X. This shift reflects a consistent trend of user growth for Threads and a decline for X.

The data indicates Threads' mobile user base grew nearly 38% year-over-year in January, while X's user count fell by approximately 12%. Despite Threads' success on mobile, X maintains a substantial lead in other areas. X continues to dominate in web traffic, with nearly 150 million daily active users on its website compared to just under 9 million for Threads. X also holds a narrow lead in daily mobile users within the United States.
