Meta Platforms is unwinding its $2 billion acquisition of Manus. Beijing blocked the purchase of the Chinese-founded AI startup on national security grounds.
The companies originally announced the transaction in late 2025. Chinese regulators ordered the parties to withdraw the deal in April.
The ruling establishes that offshore relocation does not exempt China-originated technology from Beijing's regulatory oversight. Meta is now separating Manus staff and systems from its internal operations to complete the process.
