India's food safety regulator ordered beverage makers, including Monster Beverage, Red Bull, and PepsiCo, to stop using the term "energy drink" on their products. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) stated no official standards exist for such a category. It also deemed claims of vitalizing the body and mind misleading.

The directive impacts a rapidly growing market. This market is projected to be worth $1.6 billion by 2028. Companies received a 90-day window to comply with the new labeling requirements. This move follows earlier notices and enforcement actions in some Indian states. Regulators previously seized products for unapproved therapeutic claims.
