Anthropic has announced 'Claude for Healthcare,' a suite of HIPAA-compliant AI tools for providers, payers, and patients. Unveiled at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference, the platform allows users to connect electronic health records and data from apps like Apple Health to summarize medical histories and understand lab results. The system is designed to assist with administrative tasks like prior authorizations by connecting to medical databases, including those from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
The move comes just days after competitor OpenAI launched its own 'ChatGPT Health' on January 7, 2026. OpenAI's offering similarly connects to user medical records and wellness apps to provide personalized health insights and is already being rolled out at several major U.S. hospitals. Both companies have stated that personal health data will not be used to train their AI models, signaling a new battleground for generative AI in the healthcare industry.
