Leaders from Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) and Helion outlined their respective strategies for delivering commercial fusion energy at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026. Both companies represent two of the most well-funded private ventures in the race to create clean, virtually limitless power.

Helion is targeting 2028 to deliver 50 megawatts of electricity to its partner, Microsoft. The company is building its first commercial plant, Orion, in Washington. CFS, an MIT spin-off, is developing its ARC power plant in Virginia, which is slated to come online in the early 2030s. The company has a power purchase agreement with Google and is backed by investors including Bill Gates and Eni.
