Microsoft is officially ending support for its Windows 10 operating system on October 14, 2025, a decade after its initial launch. This means that computers running on Windows 10 will no longer receive free security updates, non-security updates, or assisted support, potentially leaving them more vulnerable to viruses and malware. Microsoft has been encouraging users to upgrade to Windows 11 to ensure their devices remain secure and efficient. However, as of September 2025, a significant portion of Windows users, nearly 41%, were still using Windows 10. For users whose computers do not meet the hardware requirements for Windows 11, Microsoft is offering an Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. This paid program will provide security updates for Windows 10 for up to one additional year. In addition to ending support for the operating system, Microsoft will also cease support for its Office apps, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, on Windows 10 on the same date.
