Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella confirmed the company will continue to be a major customer of AI chips from Nvidia and AMD, even as it develops its own custom silicon. During a recent earnings call, Nadella emphasized that demand for AI and cloud services continues to outpace supply, necessitating a diverse hardware strategy.
This approach is intended to ensure Microsoft has sufficient capacity to power its growing AI services like Azure and Copilot. While the company is deploying its in-house Maia 200 chip to optimize performance and costs for its specific workloads, Nadella stressed that strong partnerships with Nvidia and AMD remain crucial. He stated, "We want to make sure we're not locked into any one thing," highlighting the rapid pace of innovation in the chip industry.
