OpenAI has signed a multi-year agreement, reported to be worth over $10 billion, to purchase up to 750 megawatts of AI computing power from chipmaker Cerebras Systems. The deal aims to accelerate response times for OpenAI's models, including ChatGPT, by leveraging Cerebras's specialized low-latency hardware.
The partnership marks one of the largest investments in specialized AI infrastructure and signals OpenAI's strategy to diversify its hardware supply chain and reduce its reliance on Nvidia. The compute capacity will be integrated in phases through 2028 and is intended to help OpenAI meet the massive and growing demand for its AI services.
